Tips that will help you create a professional video background.

If you are engaged in video blogging, streaming, and creating content for Instagram or TikTok, then working with the background is incredibly important. The background can make the video several times more interesting or, conversely, completely spoil it. Therefore, every person working with a camera should know a few simple things that will allow you to achieve a professional result.

1. Deal with all the factors that distract from the main thing

A solid and seamless background helps to create an optimal basis for shooting professional videos in absolutely any places.

2. Don’t forget about lighting

Competent lighting of the face and frame as a whole is necessary to create a professional image of the video itself. The picture should be clear and pleasing to the eye. Today, you can even do without expensive equipment that is used on television or in movies. For the content shot on YouTube, inexpensive LED lamps are ideal, perfectly emphasizing all facial features. If you are shooting a frame with a person in full height or waist-high, it is worth thinking in advance about purchasing a softbox with multiple light sources. Such devices scatter light across the entire width of the frame and reduce very sharp shadows.

If you also record sound when shooting, it is recommended to use lighting without fans or with their quiet operation. Thus, you will be able to remove unnecessary sounds from the recording.

3. Always study shadows

When an object or a person is close to the background, extra shadows may appear on the image, which should be removed from the frame. It is best to move such objects away from the background in advance. The distance will make the shadows softer or they will disappear completely. In addition, if you use this technique correctly, you can create a unique frame depth.

4. Use the backlight to separate the background from the object

The depth of the frame can be created in another very uncomplicated way. You can add another light source and place it between the background and the object in the foreground. The light, which is placed from below behind the first object and directed at the background, will create a stunning graduated effect. This method will help to pay attention to the main object. It is also possible to illuminate the object at a small angle. In this case, a strip of light will appear on the video, enhancing the difference between the background and the object.

5. Set the focus depending on the video format

Here everything is the same as what you need to do when taking photos. For a person, the optimal focal length will be 50 millimeters. Of course, it is convenient to use cameras on modern phones, but because of their short focal lengths, the viewing angle is too wide. Because of this, the proportions of objects may be distorted in the frame. In particular, the picture turns out to be unpleasant if you shoot a person with such a focus.

However, the problem definitely does not arise with too long distances. If you work with such lenses, you will get a narrow field of view, and there will be practically no distortion in the image. In addition, in such a situation it will be much easier to install the desired object in front of the camera.

6. Take care of choosing the orientation for the platform you are working with

Naturally, the most common orientation of the videos remains landscape mode. For example, this also applies to YouTube. But increasingly, some social networks are using portrait mode. Base it on the choice of orientation when setting the background. Depending on your choice, place the background horizontally or vertically.
